To lend:
Meaning: to give someone something usually for a certain length of time, with the expectation of getting it back.
Banks lend money.
Libraries lend books.

To borrow:
Meaning: to take something with permission, usually for a certain length
of time, in the knowledge you must give it back.
You can borrow money from a bank for many different purposes, i.e. to buy a house, a car, set up a business, or pay for a holiday.
You can borrow books for up to 4 weeks from libraries in England.
For example: "I borrowed some money off my mother, and
I must pay her back soon."
