Mind the Gap!
Gap dictation is a great way to introduce dictation as an exercise or to help students who find dictation difficult.
Use your own short text or the texts on my English dictation pages. Rewrite the text leaving out some important vocabulary (the gaps). Photocopy the text with the gaps (one copy for each student). Read the full text as dictation and the students should fill in the gaps with the correct word.
As an extention to this exercise you could ask the students, before the dictation, to rewrite the texts filling in the gaps with the words they think should fit. You can then discuss what the students have written and then do the dictation.
Do you have an article, handout or a teaching idea/tip that you would like to share? Fill out the form. It's good to share.
